My job in the system
In Local Void, we distinguish between "roles" and "jobs" when describing what a headmate does in the system.

A "role" is anything a headmate does at all, usually (but not always) something that is beneficial in some way, that is considered to be the "reason" they are in the system, or that is considered to be "what they do".

Some roles are what we call "passive roles", such as holding trauma, a memory, or a symptom. Those roles are more about being something than doing something. One of my passive roles in the system is that of an identity holder, as I fully identify with our intersex status and our gay identities, which not all headmates in the system do.

What we would consider "active roles", we also call "jobs". Active roles are about doing something rather than just being something. The protector and caretaker roles are active roles, because they involve you actively doing something for your system or for members of it.

My main job in the system is that of ambassador. While our system does not have "cores" in the traditional sense of an individual headmate who sees themself as the original self of the body, the concept of "the original" is relevant to our system, as we had an experience in which we discovered that our system was best thought of as three systems inhabiting one body.

While the three systems are now Unified into East, West, and Central Voidelia, they were all based around a central identity or concept of identity that is better represented through the idea of having a "core", or "core parts", than anything else. These cores are called Bryan, Blue, and Blixa, respectively, and while I am not a part of Central Voidelia anymore as of an innerworld event called the Stratification, in which the region in which I reside was reclassified as part of something called Outer Voidelia/Beethoven's Firmament, I am still considered a Blixa part due to relating heavily to the body's identity from adulthood, which Blixa was most associated with.

Because I am so tied to the life the body has led in this reality, I am a natural candidate as a "face of the system". This is why my blog is where our system makes important announcements, why my personal site is so extensive, why so much of our collective identity reflects my individual identity, and why I am often the first member of my system to speak upon joining new Discord servers.

My ambassador role involves me frequently communicating with other systems and people, helping us manage our web presence (which includes not just our sites but our request blogs on Tumblr and our Discord servers), explaining things about the system as a collective when no one else is around who would explain them better (such as why we have contradictory identities), posting updates on the internet (including to the blog of this site), and discussing aspects of Voidelian culture and history with those outside of Voidelia.

I am specifically an ambassador for the whole system to the outerworld. In my system, the ambassador role can also refer to someone who represents a specific part of the system to the outerworld (e.g. a region or a territory). This is not to be confused for a diplomat, which is largely an internal role, in which someone represents their part of the system in that part's dealings with other parts of the system (e.g. someone who represents West Voidelia for the East Voidelians). While there is often overlap in these roles, I do not have a diplomat job at the same time as an ambassador job.

One job I DO have that goes hand in hand with being an ambassador is being a historian. This is with regards to my system's innerworld history and not outerworld history, although my interest in outerworld history does aid me as an innerworld historian.

Because our system has complex internal narratives - partly due to programming, partly due to imagination - we have a lot of events that happen in the innerworld and that constitute our history. Some of those events are lost to time and amnesia, but they can be reconstructed by analyzing the memories of headmates from around those times and asking them what happened. My job involves conducting these interviews and trying to formalize accounts of what happened.

I am also tasked with recording the history that happens currently. For example, when the Stratification occurred - an innerworld event in which the three original territories of Voidelia were grouped into Inner Voidelia and a new territory with new regions was created called Outer Voidelia - I was the one to give it its name and declare June 28, the day the process could finally be seen for what it was, as Stratification Day.

However, my job as an ambassador takes precedence over my job as a historian, so there are some tasks I don't perform. For example, some of our historians have the task of physically exploring parts of the innerworld that haven't been explored yet. This means they are unable to front for the duration of the time they are exploring, and since I am needed in front at all times, that work has to be done by our other historians.

Because of my work as an ambassador and a historian, I live in the research station on our headspace's moon. This research station is very extensive and has an underground laboratory area as well as a movie theater that we both believe were used in our programming. The laboratory was used to conduct experiments, including with programming or creating headmates, and the movie theater was where we went when our programmer showed us movies or videos as part of our programming.

Headmates who live full time in this area are classed as being in a sidesystem called Moon Theater. Some of us are headmates who are being interviewed and examined long-term due to their suspected experiences with our programming that so far have not been confirmed or denied. Some of us are headmates who are conducting the interviews or using the space to do other experiments in the innerworld, such as with creating new headmates. Some of us, such as myself, are both.

My job as an ambassador and a historian is an important one, and while I never mistake myself for the owner of the body (as that title does not exist within the system anymore), I am a frequent user of it, and I am an important part of documenting the history that happens inside it.
